4. HOT SUMMER SUN IN COIMBATORE

Suddenly the beautiful sunbeams would start flashing on the face of your mentionables and unmentionables like the sudden smiling of the divine delight. The scorching summer sun, here, had always showered steeply hot on all the people alike, irrespective of whether they were the harmonious Naidus from Andhra, the proud sons of soils like the native Tamils, the keralite compliant migrants and the  enormous business folks of the Gujarat, Rajasthan and the Sindhi.  There was a fever of enthusiasm in everyone and healthy enterprise in every trade and industry. Coimbatore stood recognized as the Manchester of the south, next only to Ahmadabad, with the giant cotton mills wherever you turned around, with a fleeting and furtive air of triumph.  Beautiful  girls in sexy designer wears and handsome boys  trying to have eye to eye stealthy signals, finding themselves busy with some cine mine gossips in college cafeteria sipping Pepsi or Redbull or sitting cozily under the shadow the mammoth tamarind trees  would be a common scene in every school and college location. All the magic of youth and joy of life was there. To live in Coimbatore was joyful, happy, hilarious, and lively indeed. Can you defy that?

3. WELCOMING WESTERLY IN COIMBATORE

The westerly in my Coimbatore would bathe you, like mad. Sudden sprays of rain like volleys of sharp arrows would rattle gustily against your unmentionable features and left your  whole inside shivering. The torrential rains would be swift and swifter than your twinkling of your covert eye. The limply traffic would float in the garbage loaded grey grimy and dirty waters splashing it on all over your  best and clean dress you would wear to the college, cosmopolitan club or office. The seven ponds around the town namely the kulams would don now imperiously like the mini Arabian Seas, with grubby copious waters. They had their myriad murky intrigues. Green foliage around with colorful mantle would slyly greet the chirping birds to their murky delight often during the love filled evenings.

2. COIMBATORE DISTRICT, MY LOVE

abhi ishq ke imtihan aur bhi hain."

Coimbatore district, a pompous ecstasy; where blazing blue sky poured down torrents of light wherever you turn, lay huddled like a blond child clinging to the North West in the cozy udder of the aged mother Madras province.  Madras province or the present Tamil Nadu is enormous in both terrain and rich green forest canopy. You would without doubt observe a certain implication of admiring confidence in one and all you would chance to come across in Coimbatore. The men come into sight calm with premeditated prudence, while the women full of compassion of high order, flawlessly angelic. If you are one with a dazzling sense of beauty and a delicious throng of sensations, you are the right one to be born there. You require credentials to be a Coimbatorean.

Unlike what it is today the Coimbatore Zillah or the district had a part of the Karnataka namely Kollegal in the north, Palghat in the southwest from god’s own country, the most charming Kerala. The present Erode and Tiruppur districts were its offspring taluqs then.  Rich smart and dear children, indeed.

1. FAR DOWN IN THE SOUTH

Far down in the south, of the pre Independent India, Tamil Nadu the then Madras Province with a polite air of vigor and vitality, lay swelled with its own affluent and fabulous tradition.

On the west peered the Western Ghats like a grim sentinel togged up in lush green monsoon fatigues and on the east, the Bay of Bengal trying to gulp it down with its massive unruly and rumbling waves.  On the farthest south it pierced down in the Indian Ocean like a savage marauder, the one like; you would have seen in the "First Blood" the super hero Silverstone Stallone to your carefully appraising eye.
